Now I want to admit right up front that Twitter has still not added this option so this requires a workaround in the form of a simple browser app. It will take a while for this to catch on and until it does most of the people who view your Twitter profile won't be able to click it, but it's entirely free so you've got nothing to lose by adding it to your background and everything to gain once the idea gets popular. If you already have a background then click here to make yours ClickableNow. Here's how it works. You visit ClickableNow.com and sign up through your Twitter account. Don't worry, they use OAuth so no password is required. Once you've signed in you are redirected back to their site to a page that shows the left side of your Twitter background where you drag, drop and resize the hot spots you want to be clickable. Then you add the links to the hot spots, which can be either urls or even a link to your email address. When you're finished you save the file and you're done. Nothing happens directly to your background. The technology is simply placing an invisible overlay on top of your background that becomes active for anyone that views your Twitter page and has also installed the browser add on.
